How to Configure Microsoft Outlook

At the desktop, click on the Internet Icon.

  • You will be presented with a Connect To: field.
    • Enter your username and password as necessary.
    • Click on the Connect button.
  • Your modem will dial and connect you to the Internet.

From your desktop, double click on the Microsoft Outlook Icon.

  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Services.
    If you don't see Services, there will be a down arrow on the bottom of the tools menu, scroll down to the arrow and it will bring up services.

Internet Mail, Outlook Address Book and Personal Folders should be in the White box.

If not:

  • Click Add.
    • Select Internet Mail.
    • Click OK.
      When you add Internet Mail, your personal information will be brought up.
  • Click Add.
    • Select Outlook Address Bar.
    • Click OK.
  • Click Add.
    • Select Personal Folders.
    • Click OK.

Every time you add a service to your profile, you will see a message that states: The service you have added will not start until you choose "Exit and "Log Off" on the menu and then restart Microsoft Exchange.

  • Click OK.
  • Click once on INTERNET MAIL.
    • Click Properties.

  • Fill in the blanks with your user information.
    For example:
    • Full Name: Your Full Name
    • Email Address: your username@xiconnect.com
    • Internet mail server: mail.xiconnect.com
    • Account name: your username
    • Password: password for your mailbox

  • Click Connection tab.
    • Select connect using modem.
    • Verify that xiconnect is in the connection box.
    • Click APPLY if changes have been made.
    • Click OK.

  • Click Delivery Tab.
    • Verify Personal Folders is in the Deliver New mail...box.
    • Verify Internet Mail is in the Recipient Addresses...box.
    • Click OK

  • Click the Addressing Tab.
    • Verify Contacts is in the Show this... box.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click OK.

Compose a message to yourself to test that your e-mail works.

  • Click Compose.
  • Click New Mail Message.
  • A New Message screen will appear.
  • In the To: field, the E-mail address of the person you want to send a message to is typed here.
  • Since we are testing, enter your E-mail address, (i.e.,username@xiconnect.com).
  • In the Subject: field, type Test Message.
  • Click in the Text area and type a short message.
  • Click on the Send icon.
  • This will place your message in the Outbox ready to send. This will not send the message by itself, the message will stay in your Outbox until the next time you choose to check for New Mail.

Sending and Receiving Mail.

  • Click on Tools.
  • Click Check New Mail.
  • Outlook will automatically check your mail.
  • The message you composed will be sent and moved to the Sent box.
  • If you have messages, a list of the messages will appear in the Inbox.
  • If you did not receive the message you just sent yourself, wait a few seconds, click Tools and check for New Mail again.

To read your message.

  • Double click on the subject of the message you want to read.

When you are done with Microsoft Outlook:

  • Click File.
  • Click Exit.

Disconnect from Internet if desired.

  • Open dialer.
  • Click disconnect.
